Hello from Palma de Mallorca in Spain! Happy New Year to you all!
My name is Jan and I am a teacher at International House.
I want to answer some of your questions:
1. I had a very nice Christmas with my family here in Palma. We had a fantastic supper on Christmas Eve (24th December) and then we went to church at midnight
2. On Christmas morning we had stockings with lots of presents from Santa Claus and presents he left under our Christmas tree! (This is an English tradition, not a Spanish tradition !)
3. We had a special lunch on Christmas Day with all the family.
4.On New Year's Eve we stayed at home - me, my husband Miquel, my daughter Laura (she's 12 years old) and Laura's Spanish grandmother. At midnight we celebrated with a very Spanish tradition: we listened to the bells from the famous clock in the Puerta del Sol in Madrid (on the TV) and we tried to eat 12 grapes before the bells finished. If you can eat all your grapes, you will have lots of luck during the year! Then there were lots of fantastic, and very noisy, fireworks all over Palma!
5. Did you know that in Spain we also celebrate the Three Kings on 6th January? This is when Spanish children get most of their presents. We have big processions in the evening on 5th January when the Three Kings arrive on their camels with lots of presents and lots of sweets! If children have been "bad" during the year, they get coal!
5. This year for the Three Kings I was in Vigo, Galicia - nearly in Portugal!! My daughter Laura plays handball and we went to Galicia for 6 days so she could play for the "Islas Baleares" in the "Campeonato de España" It was very cold and rainy in Vigo - here in Mallorca it is quite cold but very sunny!

What did you eat on Christmas Day?
We ate a lot because we meet with our family. We ate meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, and a lot of cakes. We prepared a lot of food. With this food we ate two or three days more.

Did you see fireworks?
Yes, I saw fireworks in Málaga on New Year Eve and on Christmas Eve. The fireworks were exciting! This were yellow, green, purple, red, pink, blue...It's fun to see.
What do you do in Holy Week?

A videogame called 'Retro'. It has many old games, as 'Comococos' or 'Bubblepuzzle'.

We`re the 8th grade from Russia.And we`d like to tell you about our New Year celebrating.New Year ’s Day is one of winter holidays. The 1st of January is the first day of the New year in Russia. New Year’s Day is a family holiday .And we celebrated 2008 New Year with families as a rule. We decorated New Year tree with toys, little colored lights and sweets. Our parents prepared tasty dishes and laid big tables. We gave each other different presents: they were many useful things and sweets. But some of us found their presents under the New Year Tree. After the New Year had come some of us went out to set off the firecrackers and to visit our town’s New Year Tree and of course to meet friends there. They also met Grandfather Frost there with Snegurochka, his grand daughter. They gave sweets to the people who sang songs and danced. Most of us didn’t go to bed till the morning. Because we liked celebrating it very much: we put on different fancy costumes, sang karaoke and carols, played games, joked. All of us enjoyed celebrating this holyday very much as it was very funny and entertaining.
